Design a better arm!!

Posted by Unknown at 23:51

So for today's reflection would be creating a better arm! The word " arm " can be deduce into many different meanings. Arms can be referred as  weapons, or tools used in the war .It can also be referred as normal human arms or prosthetic arms.

Traditionally in the olden days or prototype mindset, when it comes to "arms" the first image that comes to most people's mind is either :
the "hook" type of prosthetic arm

or  the normal high-tech prosthetic arm.

However , in a more creative and imaginary of an artist , this is the type of image that comes to my mind:

                                                     anime prosthetic arms!!!

so i went online to find some reference and this is what I've found!

A sharp arm? A better arm that can be used to slice and dice fruits?
A strong and stable metal arm ?
Something similar but in a more masculine design?
A long arm with sharp claws ,maybe? Easier to reach out to things that are higher or further away from the user?
A blade that is attach to the human arm. Unlike the previous images , instead of surgically replacing the original human arm, this is attached. so anyone want to giant blade but too lazy to hold? Install a "better arm " on your back!
Not so much like an "arm" but definitely beneficial to its user in many ways . Now the user would have 3 pairs of arms to do his/her work.

Something similar which is more mechanical and cyborg form . Looks like tentacles though.
An arm that turns into a real "arm" . A machine gun that is created in the form of an arm. relatively dangerous creation .

So after all the research and reference that i have gone through , i concluded my thinking process and created a mind map. Here goes:

First i sketch out the picture that first comes to my mind. The original human arm. Then i proceed by coloring and highlighting.
And here's how it all turns out. I categorized the different advantages that a " better arm " can be used .For examples:

1. Daily life - A "better arm " that is created for students or office working adults to help them type ,draw or write faster.

-A portable "better arm" that is placed on the table or any flat surface.

Benefits? Instead of have to hold your book up or even your tablet or phone, u can now have this portable resting arm to hold for instead. No more tiring arm !

-wanting to take a selfie from a high angle but hands are too short? Introducing the "portable selfie arm"!
works just like a selfie stick.

2.  At home. - For housewives, having difficulty hanging your clothes outside ?
No more fear and pain! with the new " better arm" . Instead of having to hold the poll with wet and heavy clothes on, just attach this "long" arm and you can stretch your hand out to hang you clothes on the polls outside. How convenient!

                     - Besides that , having a chair at home that has no armrest ? Just attach it
" better arm " at the chair and there , an armrest.

3. Decorative purposes. - Mostly something good for the cos-players though. The "better arm " can be attached at the back of the user . Having multiply of it can form "wings" .

             - it can also helps to hold your flowers and could act like a vase.

The outcome..

I think this piece of work that i have finalized and created using magazine cut outs turns out to more of a advertising poster rather than a piece of art work.

So this is an example of how the "better arm" can benefit those people who are always busy. Just attach the better arm behind the user and it can help them make coffee or breakfast.

The "better arm " as gloves to help user hold hot dishes or hot stuff from the oven .

Unable to reach higher places? The " better arm " helps to reach higher items .

The "better arm " is extendable and can act like a selfie stick. It holds better too.

The end.
